Functional reconstruction of the JJ Rodolphe mouthpiece, copied from a historical original in the Claude Maury collection. Deep funnel geometry (not a bowl cup) produces the darker, woodier timbre of the 18th-century natural horn. 17mm diameter. Requires a medium or large leadpipe adaptor to seat in modern instruments. Used by natural horn specialist Isaac Shieh. Particularly suited to cor basse pyrotechnics of the early 19th century where hand-stopping produces resonant, well-pitched notes. Use these measurements as a comparison starting point: fit and response still depend on the player, dental structure, instrument receiver, and each manufacturer's measuring method.
