About Boosey & Hawkes and the 5G size
Boosey & Hawkes is not known to have manufactured a mouthpiece model called “5G”. In trombone use, 5G is a Bach/Conn-style size designation rather than a B&H catalogue number. Modern Conn 88H players normally use a standard large-shank 5G-style mouthpiece.
The historical fitting issue is shank taper: older Conn 88H instruments may use the Remington/Conn taper, while modern large-bore tenors use the standard large shank. If a vintage player is asking for a “B&H 5G”, the useful comparison point is usually a Bach/Conn 5G large-shank profile, not a discontinued Boosey & Hawkes model.
